OLYMPIC GAMES RIO 2016
2016 Olympic Games officially XXXI Olympic Games, most commonly Rio 2016, will be a multi-sport event held in the fall of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event will take place between 5 and 21 August 2016, and Paralimpíadas will be between 7 and 18 September of the same year. The place of the opening and closing ceremonies will be at Maracana Stadium. 28 sports will be played, two more than in the Summer Olympics 2012. The COI Executive Committee suggested the inclusion of rugby sevens and golf.
The choice was made during the 121st Session of the International Olympic Committee, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on October 2, 2009. Summer Paralympic Games in 2016 will be hosted in the same city and organized by the same committee. It will be the first time that the Olympic Games will be hosted in South America and the second time in Latin America, after Mexico City in 1968.
